Delete your account
Deactivate from Danger Zone if you might come back. Permanent deletion removes the account and cannot be undone.
Signing out leaves the account in place. Closing it is done while you are signed in, from Danger Zone in Settings.
Deactivate
- Open Danger Zone and choose Deactivate Account, then confirm.
- The profile comes down. You lose access to the account and its applications.
- Sign back in before the account is permanently deleted and you can reactivate it.
- An account that stays deactivated is permanently deleted on the schedule in the Privacy Policy. Write to [email protected] from the address on the account if you need that timing, or if you need it removed sooner.
If the only goal is to hide the profile, change privacy instead of deactivating. See How do I make my profile private?.
Permanent deletion
On the same Danger Zone page, choose Permanently Delete Data. This cannot be undone. It deletes the account and the data on it, removes access, and cancels an active subscription. A confirmation email goes to the address on the account. After it finishes, signing in with that email creates a new account. It does not restore this one.
- Search engines can keep a cached page after the profile is gone. That copy ages out on their schedule.
- Closing the account removes your access to applications. It does not pull an application back out of an employer's records if they already received it.
- A store you own should be handed off or closed before you delete the login that administers it.
